What's the California's team name? And on the catching rule, can you catch any ball with one foot in bounds or does the rule only apply when momentum is taking you out?

If one foot is in and the other is out...if you were out before you caught it you are out and the thrower is still in. If you catch it and you go out, we are at the momentum rule.

OK, I read a bit about the tourney and the sponsorship rules. Let's say that I find a business to sponsor a group of 6 people and the business has $1000 available for advertising. Then, two groups of 6 would be entered into the competition via the said business? That's a pretty good deal, I'd say! The only thing would be to find a nation-wide business/company as local businesses wouldn't want to sponsor an event in Virginia (or near Washington, D.C.) as their target customers don't live there -- except if the said business has set up e-commerce online.
I did have a question though, is this a semi-pro, an amateur, or a non-pro event? I'm fairly sure that there isn't a "Professional dodgeball league," unless you want to count GSN's "Extreme Dodgeball" TV show. I guess the "deep" question is: What experience level are the competitors. I am an awesome catcher and very strong so I could throw hard (I'd say); but would I have a real chance, as I don't practice daily?
Thanks for all the info! I read your post on GSN's "buzz" message boards and was very intrigued by this! I thank you in advance for a speedy reply! I am interested in this contest, but finding 5 people to join me may be more difficult.

After reading the tournament rules, I noticed that GSN's "Extreme Dodgeball" doesn't keep the same rules as in this tourney. They allow multiple outs by one live ball hitting two or more players; as well as teammates may catch a deflected live ball to save their hit teammate. I do understand your rules about these items, though.
My question is: If the person who tries to catch the throw can't maintain control, bobbles it, but still catches the ball before it hits the floor (or another person), is that player credited with a catch or an out for not catching it on first contact with the ball? In the same situation, could a teammate "assist" the hit person by keeping the ball airbourne, but the first hit player still catches it without hitting the floor, is it considered a legal catch or 'a dead ball'?

Correct...for $1,000 you get 2 teams (or sponsor 2 teams) in the tourny.
Event is open to anyone. The last two teams that won...one team was a kickball team and the other co-workers. We havent had any "pro" teams. We had some teams that play in leagues and tournys. But they were beat by the randon teams. No one is a seasoned dodgeball player.
I regard to the rules question. If you go to catch it and bobble it...as long as no one else touches the ball, you are in and they are out (thrower). In regards to the helping out by keeping it in the air...no, you are out by first contact.
Thanks...

We're a little confused about your definitions of "out of bounds".
While we understand the ruling regarding catching with one foot it, is a player out if:
1. They stand on the court, one foot in and one foot out 2. They exit the court (rear) to retrieve a ball, but then enter the court (side) 3. They catch a ball out of bounds. The rules say you can't make a catch out of bounds, and also say you can get hit out of bounds. So if a successful catch is made, out of bounds, does it just count as a hit and the player is out? 4. They touch the out line, without crossing it?
thanks

#1 - out #2 - out #3 - if you catch a ball, while standing out of bounds...the person throwing I would say is not out...how ever I would say if they got hit while retrieving a ball out of bounds they would still be out #4 - in

A great question about a rule has been brought to the table. Can a player throw their ball to block another ball that is being thrown at one of their teammates? At this point, I will say YES that is allowed.
A problem does come about when the players are almost right next to each other. Where it may look like the player went to BLOCK the ball and dropped it (which would result in being OUT).
I will allow the throwign to block, but it will be up to the REFS to determine the tough calls when the players are right next to each other. The refs call is FINAL!

Is there a count on the number of teams currently signed up?
